The author is fed up with the state gobbling up new land; they are not preserving the woods and destroying wetlands to produce condos. I for one have had it with the people destroy nature. Nature is a beautiful thing and it will take year for it to grow back to its original state. The attitude of this author reminds me of David Thoreau. In one of Thoreau’s essay called “Walden” he talked about how he admires the woods for its beauty. He wanted to stop and admire nature. Just like the author says when he says he wants to see the leaves fall and walk in the woods when it snows.
Don Henley says that in high school when he learned about transcendentalism it opened his eyes. He learned to admire the world’s nature and stop to look at it. He realized the importance it is to just enjoy nature and appreciate the beauty it withholds. This relates to Self Reliance where he talks about his courage to become a songwriter. He chose to become something that is stressful and relies only on you. He works by himself and all the burdens are on him. If he makes it he will get the satisfaction of hard work.
